Responsible for assigning the appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes, and where needed the assignment of Diagnostic Related Groups, based on the documentation present in the patients medical record. Requires a detail understanding of coding guidelines and principles; reimbursement guidelines; and regulatory requirements. Excellent judgement is required in the determination of coding queries to assure documentation is clarified to support accurate coding. The Coding Team works in conjunction with the Clinical Documentation Improvement team to assure the appropriateness and accuracy of documentation supports the codes assigned. Coding performed must comply with the  standards for accuracy and productivity. The hospital and coding environment are fully electronic requiring a level of technical ability to properly navigate through the Coding process. To Qualify You Must Have:
  • Minimum Associates Degree in Health Information Technology.
  • RHIT or RHIA credentialed.
  • Minimum of one year experience in hospital medical record coding is required; previous inpatient coding experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology required.
  • Proficient computer use and software applications Windows applications.
  • Experience working with electronic medical record system; Epic preferred.
  • Ability to apply local, state, and federal guidelines with attention to detail
