The Information Security Officer (ISO) is responsible for the organization’s Information Security Program, including, but not limited to, daily operations of the IT security program, oversight of the annual and ongoing risk assessment process, development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures. The ISO ensures the confidentiality, integrity and access of electronic protected health information and of monitoring program compliance as well as investigation and tracking of incidents and breaches and in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Security Rule, every Covered entity and Business Associate must designate a security official, who is responsible for technical, administrative and physical safeguards in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations, especially the HIPAA Security Rules.
To qualify you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems or a related healthcare field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8-10 years of knowledge/experience in federal and state information security laws and regulations, including HIPAA, NIST, SANS and HITECH.
  • Security certification such as Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in collaboration, teamwork and problem-solving to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication and listening.
  • High level of integrity and trust.
