The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) uses clinical and coding knowledge of documentation requirements to improve overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation as well as relevant diagnoses, procedures and ancillary treatment using a multidisciplinary team process.  A complete and accurate medical record will support the appropriate clinical severity to capture the level of service rendered to the patient.  The CDS must be devoted to ongoing, continuous learning of clinical medicine; practical understanding of International Classification and Disease coding systems and have the ability to education physicians.  Findings and data in the CDI review process shall be shared with the medical staff and multidisciplinary teams for education and solutions in operational excellent of clinical documentation improvement efforts.
Position is located at St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart, Indiana.
To qualify, you must have:
•         Licensed RN in State of Indiana, Bachelors degree preferred. 
•         3-5 years of acute inpatient clinical experience.  Case management and utilization review experience preferred.
•         Knowledge of MS-DRG, prospective payment systems, basic knowledge of medical coding.
•         Must have analytical skills to clinically assess medical records.
•         Ability to work independently in a time oriented environment with excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
•         Excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking skills and interpersonal skills necessary to build effective partnering relationships with physicians and hospital staff.
•         Proficient in MS Office applications and familiar with basic office equipment.
