  • NURSE PRACTITIONER WOUND/OSTOMY CLINIC
        POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY :  
    Provides care to patients acting as an assistant to physicians following established standards and practices. This position works between the physician office and Hospital(s).  Varied weekend and on-call coverage required
     
    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
    •       Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
    •       Must have successfully completed an accredited program for Nurse Practitioner with a master's degree in nursing.
    •       Minimum of 3 years nursing experience.
    •       Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice and medical care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.  Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients. Knowledge of patient education principles to develop a self-care program. Skills in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency work situations. Ability to communicate clearly.
    •       Indiana State Registered Nurse License, Drug Enforcement Agency number of prescription privileges granted and CPR certification.
    •       Documentation of prescriptive authority granted by the State of Indiana and a valid controlled substance certification must be on file in the Medical Staff Services Department prior to ordering medications.
    •       Completion of a WOCN Accredited Professional Education Program and WOCN certification preferred; enrollment in program should be obtained within one year of appointment with WOCN certification completed within 2 years of appointment.
    •       Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education programs, seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations, including self-studies to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of expertise as required by certification.  Constantly seeking new information.
    •       Meets the education requirements for the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certification and Prescriptive Authority by participating in the required continuing education hours.  Shares information with the medical and nursing support staff.
    •       Must successfully complete credentialing and privileging process before functioning as a Nurse Practitioner.
    •       Participates in research activities as approved by the hospital's IRB.
    •       Member of professional organization.
