    NURSE PRACTITIONER
    FOR STROKE AND NEUROENDOVASCULAR PROGRAM
     

    POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

    This position will support the comprehensive stroke and Neuroendovascular program. Working with the Neuroendovacsular and critical care physicians will care for the patients in the Neuroscience Service Line.
    This is a new program requiring 24/7 NP or physicians coverage. NP and or PA will provide routine care, post-op care and ongoing patient care of the neuroscience patients to include stoke and stroke intervention and neurosurgery. This position will require a comprehensive training on-site and at Rush. NPs and PAs will be required to do procedural interventions such as: Chest Tubes, Line Placement and additional services as trained and proven competent. Additionally, the NPs and PAs may attend Rapid Response's, Code Blue and Stroke ALERTS.
    NURSE PRACTITIONER REQUIREMENTS:
     
    •       Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
    •       Must have successfully completed an accredited program for Nurse Practitioners with a minimum of a Master's degree. Must have current certification as a Nurse Practitioner through a recognized credentialing body. 
    •       Minimum of 3 years nursing experience. Office and Acute Care Hospital experience preferred
    •       Indiana State Registered Nurse License, Drug Enforcement Agency number of prescription privileges granted and CPR certification.
    Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice and medical care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.  Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients. Knowledge of patient education principles to develop a self-care program. Skills in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency work situations. Ability to communicate clearly.
