POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY

 
Under the supervision and direction of a staff nurse and according to established practices and procedures, facilitates the provision of patient care by performing specific tasks, caring for the personal needs, comfort, and safety of the patient in accordance with hospital policy and standards of care as identified by the Department of Patient Care Services.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
 
    \t
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • \t
  • Education equivalent to high school diploma or GED.
  • \t
  • Must have one or more of the following:\t
      \t\t
    • Completion of a certified nurse assistant training course or recognized equivalent .
    • \t\t
    • One year satisfactory work performance as a nurse assistant. (Current valid State certification is also strongly recommended.)
    • \t
    \t
  • \t
  • Maintains current CPR Certification.
  • \t
  • Completes Annual Skills and OSHA validations, as well as Safety and Infection Control procedures.
  • \t
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform required competencies within allotted time periods.
  • \t
  • Successful completion of a Patient Care Technician Course.
 
Special Skills and Abilities/Competencies Required:

  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to:\t

    • Provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served.
    • \t\t
    • Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to the patient’s age-specific needs.
    • \t\t
    • Demonstrates knowledge and principles of growth and development over the life span.
    • \t\t
    • Provides the care needed as described in the unit/department policies and procedures.
