  • POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY  
    The Perinatal Coordinator develops, organizes, and conducts a Perinatal education service program for inpatients, outpatients, and hospital staff.  Coordinates activities of the Perinatal education program with other team members and acts as a resource person.  Participates in financial management of the program.  Coordinates and provides in-service education and community education.  Participates in coordination of community events and conferences.  Demonstrates clinical expertise, professional judgment, and knowledge of management of pregnancy, labor support and its impact on birthing outcomes, and initiation and management of lactation.  Involved in providing education and support to childbearing and breastfeeding infants and/or lactating women.  Provides documentation, implementation modalities, and communication concerning childbirth and lactation for physicians and the nursing staff.  Acts as a consultant and researcher for the nursing staff, physicians, and childbearing and breastfeeding families.  Participates in outreach programs specific to Maternal/Child Health.  Reports and works in conjunction with Nurse Manager of the LDRP/PEDS.  The nurse practices in accordance with current established standards of care, the Nurse Practice Act, the Community Healthcare System policies and procedures, and supports the mission and philosophy of CHS by providing the highest quality care in the most cost efficient manner, provides for the well being of the community, services the needs of all people and demonstrates the values: dignity, compassionate care, community, quality and stewardship.   EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
     
    •         Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
    •         Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Indiana.
    •         B.S. or B.S.N. or RN Certification in field or Obstetrics required.
    •         Successful completion of The Community Healthcare System Personnel and Nursing Orientation Programs.
    •         Minimum of three years of related maternal/infant nursing with experience in nursing management and administrative responsibilities.
    •         Neonatal Resuscitation certified.
    •         Working towards Lactation Certification (Preferably IBCLC)
    •         Adult and infant CPR certification.
