The IV Therapy Department provides clinical expertise and nursing knowledge to meet the total intravenous needs for a variety of patients.  Our expertise and knowledge provides safe, successful intravenous therapy to the acutely ill medical patients, surgical patients in all areas from pediatric to the elderly population.
The IV Therapy Department RNs' objectives and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
* Assessment of every patient's IV needs, every day. * Patient/family/significant others teaching.* Insertion peripheral short infusion catheters. * Accessing implantable venous access devices. * Monitoring and maintaining IV sites and systems. * Trouble shooting peripheral and central IV lines. * Declotting central lines, IVADS, and Dialysis Catheters. * Care and Maintenance of peripheral IVs, Implantable Access devices, central lines on assigned floors and other areas excluding Oncology, Heart Failure Clinic, and CSC. * Blood draws from implantable access devices and central lines on units other than Oncology, CHF clinic and CSC. * Routine tubing, dressing and site changes. * Evaluating patients' response to prescribed therapy. * Compiling statistics to quality and quantity IV services. * IV orientation/validation for new RNs/LPNs. * IV Annual Validation for the department and Community Home Health RNs. * Staff meetings, in-services and seminars. * Responds to Code Blue/ART on assigned full service units. 
Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current professional licensure by the State of Indiana Health Professions Bureau. BSN desirable. Successful completion of The Community Healthcare System's Personnel and Nursing Orientation Programs. Obtains and maintains current certification (ACLS) as required in specialty areas (Critical Care). Obtains and maintains current CPR certification.
