The Staff RN is responsible for implementing, directing, communicating and documenting the nursing process and provides a safe environment for patients, visitors and associates. The nurse practices in accordance with current established standards of care, the Nurse Practice Act, the Community Healthcare System policies and procedures, and supports the mission and philosophy of CHS.
Scope of Care:
The Orthopedic Unit is a 24 bed multidisciplinary, 24 hour orthopedic/medical/surgical unit located on the third floor of the hospital. Patients over the age of 12 years may be admitted to the unit. Average patient age is 63 years.
Most common types of patients admitted to Orthopedics are hip, ankle and pelvic fractures, orthopedic and surgical patients. The most common surgical procedures are knee, hip, and shoulder arthroplasty. Other surgical procedures include hip pinning, open reduction, laminectomy, lumbar fusion and cervical fusion. General Medical/Surgical patients include abdominal pain, general abdominal surgery and back pain.
Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current professional licensure by the State of Indiana Health Professions Bureau. BSN desirable. Successful completion of The Community Healthcare System's Personnel and Nursing Orientation Programs. Obtains and maintains current certification (ACLS) as required in specialty areas (Critical Care). Obtains and maintains current CPR certification.
