Location: Hobart, IN

Under the supervision of a RN and according to established practices and procedures, facilitates the provision of patient care by performing specific tasks and support functions as delegated by the Manager or Staff RN in surgery.
    1. Patient Care Skills:  provides basic care to patients under the guidelines set forth according to hospital policies and procedures.
    2. Transports patients to surgery including Minor Procedure Unit and ensures that appropriate procedures are followed:
      1. Transports in-patients and uses care in the movement/transport of IVs and equipment.
      2. Transports out-patients to surgery using necessary assistive devices (e.g. wheelchairs, carts, etc.)
      3. Verifies patient identification
      4. Assists patient with gowning
      5. Collects and ensures proper storage of patient’s belongings (i.e. jewelry, money, dentures, etc.)
      6. Performs other routine checks to ensure patient is properly prepared for surgery.
      7. Answers call lights in timely manner.
      8. Uses PPE at appropriate times and in accordance with Hospital guidelines.
      9. Takes vital signs, TPR & BP.
    3. Assist nursing personnel in preparing and stocking surgery rooms for surgeries.
      1. Checks and maintains inventory levels for equipment and supplies
      2. Re-stocks supplies as necessary.
      3. Advises charge nurse of need to replace/repair instruments and equipment.
      4. Cleans sinks
      5. Washes and sanitizes carts.
      6. Checks logs and refrigerator temperature and advises/notifies manager of problems and/or exceeded parameters.
      7. Maintains records regarding temperature and humidity levels of rooms and notifies manager of problems and/or exceeded parameters.
      8. Maintains adequate supply of surgical attire for staff and physicians
      9. Advises manager of problems with supplies.
    4. Transports specimens to the Laboratory as directed or necessary. Completes Laboratory logs.
    5. Picks up and/or delivers reports, equipment to other hospital areas/departments as necessary.
    6. Maintains a clean, orderly work area and observes safety regulations and standards.
      1. Cleans OR rooms between procedures, including mopping floors.
      2. Removes all line and trash from room.
      3. Damp dusts all furniture in operating room prior to first case of the day.
    7. Assists with orientation of new staff to areas of responsibilities.
      1. Provides instructions relative to procedures/guidelines and equipment usage.
    8. Demonstrates commitment/support of unit/departmental goals, policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operations.
    9. Completes job duties within required time frame, according to established schedules or workflow requirements.
    10. Maintains attendance as an essential requirement of the position and as designated by   hospital     
    1. Actively participates in hospital and unit staff meetings
    2. Demonstrates support for departmental and hospital initiatives and resulting operational changes.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to:
    • Provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served
    • Demonstrate knowledge and principles of growth and development over the life span.
    • Provide the care needed as described  in the unit/department policies and procedures
  • Current  BLS provider
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to:  a) provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served, b) demonstrate knowledge and principles of growth and development over the life span, c) possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to the patient’s age-specific needs, d) provide the care needed as described in the department policies and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Completion of high school level course work.
  • Completion of an approved nurse aid training course preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform required competencies (skills) within allotted time
